BAUME & MERCIER “Clifton” – Urban times ..!

Since 1830, the Swiss Maison d’Horlogerie Baume & Mercier has made it a point of honor to create watches that are appreciated for their balanced design, the quality of their movements and the rare quality that each creation possesses of representing a glimpse of luxury in a form that is both beautiful and accessible. Never has this business philosophy been more apparent than with the introduction of the Clifton watch. This collection of men’s watches is inspired by a museum timepiece that dates back to the 1950’s.

BAUME & MERCIER “Clifton” – Die urbane Zeit

MONTEGRAPPA – Sylvester Stallone presents the “Chaos” wristwatch

For 2013, to complete a triumvirate of Chaotic treasures, Sylvester Stallone and Montegrappa present the Chaos Automatic Analogue Wristwatch. Hand-made in northern Italy, where its mechanical movement is housed by artisans, the Chaos timepiece is an ideal partner for the pen and the cufflinks that inspired it. Most striking is the case, fashioned from a choice of silver or gold, with black PVD-coated back. It features the signature skull-and-serpents motif that continues around the case, even including a small, engraved skull on the winding crown. Its highlights have been intensified by subtle shading, while other editions will offer the details in hand-applied, full-colour enamels. The case is complemented by a leather strap with contrasting edges, terminating in a buckle with the skull motif, while the dial features applied Roman numerals, suggesting the antiquity of the Middle Ages. The black, bi-level, brushed guilloché dial with luminous hands and date aperture at 3 o’clock is protected by a sapphire crystal.

ROMAIN GAUTHIER – Constant force for the 21st century

Logical One features a quadruple patent-pending Romain Gauthier flat chain-and-fusee style constant force system with ruby chain links, ergonomic push button winding system, dial-side visible balance, mainspring barrel with sapphire inserts, plus a 60-hour power reserve indicator. ‘Coming from an engineering background, it appeared strange to have a high precision machine forced to run at varying power levels. So I started with the premise that it would be better to have constant energy’, Romain Gauthier says. The vast majority of machines run on constant force. Cars and planes don’t start running slower as fuel runs low and machines receive the same voltage no matter how much electricity is produced. Yet the power that runs and regulates the vast majority of high precision mechanical timepieces varies greatly according to the state of wind of the mainspring.

THOMAS PRESCHER completed the “Nemo Sailor”

Thomas Prescher’s “Nemo Triptychron” is inspired by Jules Verne’s “20’000 Miles Under the Sea” and different steampunk and art nouveau influences. To create this marvel Thomas Prescher dived into a cosmos of images and stories of the late 19th century. Surrounded by a collection of material of these topics he created a fantastic story around all the things he found and published it every few days like a diary about a new sensational archeological discovery. A lot of attention was paid to this new way of letting the public participate in the creative process. It was clearly indicated that the story was invented but many readers were so fascinated that they have taken it for real. So the entire project became a fabulous success. The “Nemo Tryptichron” story will be continued soon with the models Officer and Captain.
